It takes some focus to realise that so much in ones life can be heartily shared with others, who in turn have given such pleasure to oneself in their own retelling of life's events. So hereby, I declare, the first edition of "Giddy about". I look forward to the journey it takes me on.
I kid myself to think I live on this rather grandly estate, which indeed I do, for now anyway. I take the woodland walk every morning with Bonny & Olly the Labradors,Bonny being the blond babe. In the peace of the holidays I explore the gardens, study the seasons and seek inspiration for my little plot of vegetation. I fervently follow the gardeners timings, - manure time, grass cutting time, pruning time, barking time! In complete contrast the house is adjacent to the main road and the main coach stop to London backs on to my hedge, I never resent the intrusion, there is always an air of excitement and buzz about young people gathering and travelling to the city or the international airports, their heavily laden cases grinding and clucking over the paving, the shrieks and giggles or lovers farewells.
Spring is upon us, and April has started in spectacular style with warm balmy days and a peek of summer to come, we hope, but then the cool winds is still creeping around and whams us when the sun is hidden. I have taken serious steps to get my raised beds on the go. They were piled high with the old manure in January and raked over with the exception of the coriander patch in a bid that self seeding has occurred with my fantastic coriander from last year. So in went the sweetcorn plug plants, carrot seeds, lettuce seeds, beetroot plugs, spinach plugs, sweet peas for colour, pea plugs, and the netting. I gaze out on it every day from my kitchen window. Our garden is a landing post from many a pigeon as well as grey squirrel, both of whom attract hysterics from Bonny, so up went the netting, rather unsightly in some ways but a comical reminder of what alluring places allotments can be , and my, aren't they just the rage these days, I rather like the idea of being part of an allotment club, but for the time being as a relatively new member of the sailing club this takes president. Talking of sailing, lets hope that will feature in next weeks blog, as I gear up for the first sail of the season to-morrow. Thermals are at the ready, boat has been washed and bungees put in. Last week we saw a black swan on the lake with all of it's white bretherin, quite spectacular to think it has come from down under at some point.
